Probably every tripper to the Sázava basin has visited this beautiful Gothic castle and got to know its history. The castle, founded around 1241 by Zdeslav of the Divišovic family, is perched high on a cliff above the river Sázava. Zdeslav named it Sternberg according to his coat of arms - a golden star. The castle’s appearance changed after its Late Gothic reconstruction. Currently, it is held by the Sternberg family. Visitors will be shown around 15 rooms, richly furnished throughout with period furniture, paintings and carpets, and will have an opportunity to see a unique collection of graphic figures and varied filigree pieces, pictorial family tree, collection of historic firearms and cutting weapons, exquisite porcelain, hunting trophies and many other interesting pieces. In the high season, thousands of tourists head for the place either on hiking or cycling paths.
